Members of Colombia’s rebel group FARC have detonated a bridge in San Vicente del Caguan, cutting off the town from neighboring regions in Caqueta province, officials said.

On Friday, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebels blew up the Riecito bridge which connected the town of San Vicente del Caguan, located some 400km south of Bogota, to neighboring Florencia town.

Noone was injured in the explosion.

The explosion took place early morning as people in Colombia were celebrating the 202nd anniversary of their independence from Spain.

The road over the bridge was mainly used by multinational oil company Emerald Energy in order to transfer oil from its oil fields to Florencia.

Founded in 1964, FARC has an estimated 9,200 fighters operating in the mountainous and jungle areas of the country.
