“We consider this summit as a chance for our nation’s viewpoint to be explained transparently and for efforts to be made towards the convergence and protection of the interests and existence of Muslim nations,” Ahmadinejad said on Monday.
President Ahmadinejad made the remarks just before departing Tehran for Saudi Arabia to attend the emergency meeting of OIC members, due to be held in Mecca on August 14 and 15.
The Iranian chief executive pointed to the recent developments in the Muslim world and said Iran expects the summit to address the most pressing issues of Muslim countries and help put an end to enmities among Muslims.
“A significant portion of the energy of Muslim governments and groups is spent on internal conflicts and damaging each other,” said Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad said he would hold bilateral meetings with several heads of state during the OIC summit.
Several Iranian ministers and vice presidents accompany Ahmadinejad on the trip.
The Saudi king has called for an emergency Islamic summit of the OIC in Mecca to address major issues facing the Muslim world and the latest developments in the region.
The Jeddah-based OIC is the world’s largest Islamic body, with 57 members.
