The Chinese government says Beijing is against a military strike against Iran amid increasing war threats by the US and Israel.

“We always oppose the use or the threat of use of force in handling state-to-state relations,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said on Monday.

He made the remarks after US and Israeli officials intensified their threats against Iran over the country’s nuclear program in the past weeks.

US officials have repeatedly threatened Tehran with a military strike against the country’s nuclear facilities.

The Chinese official said a strike against Iran would only intensify the confrontation and push the region into greater turmoil.

He added that dialog and negotiation are the right approach to settling differences.

Washington and its Western allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program.

Refuting the allegations, Tehran says it is entitled to the peaceful use of nuclear technology as a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency that has been subjected to snap inspections which have never yielded evidence indicating diversion in the country’s nuclear work.
