Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has called for the expansion of relations between Iran and its northern neighbor Azerbaijan based on mutual interests.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev in Tehran on Tuesday.

Salehi said Tehran is willing to continue and expand its ties with the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Azeri defense minister stressed the significance of the relations between Tehran and Baku, saying his country will not allow its territory to be used against its southern neighbor, Iran.
