Prominent Iranian illustrator and graphic designer Mohammad-Ali Bani-Asadi was nominated for the 2012 Hans Christian Andersen Awards offered by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) at the Italian fair.
The jury selected Bani-Asadi for applying different techniques, color and a subtle sense of humor in his work.
Iranian book illustrator Ali Bouzari received the New Horizon Award of the 49th edition of Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
Alireza Goldouzian, Narges Mohammadi, Fereshteh Najafi, Noushin Safakhou and Morteza Zahedi were other Iranian participants whose works were displayed at the fair.
This year’s jury comprised of artists Ryoll Arai (Japan), Chiara Carrer (Italy), Anna-Laure Cognet (France), Magdalena Klos (Poland) and Elizabeth Wood (UK).
The 2012 edition of the event also introduced Portugal as the 49th Bologna Children’s Book Fair Guest of Honor Country.
This year’s book fair hosted about 1,200 participants from 66 countries as well as 5,000 international professional trade representatives.
According to the event’s official website, more than 600 journalists representing 70 countries reported on the event.
Established in 1963, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair is the most important international event dedicated to the children’s publishing and multimedia industry.
The 49th Bologna Children’s Book Fair was held from March 19 to 22, 2012.
